#9  The US restricts raw milk from our own farmers.

They tried to restrict wood from cheese making.

#8  Fair Trade. Everyone wants to define it. I think it means: "No more. I ain't playin' with these rules. Better or we don't play"

#6  Republicans used to be smarter when it came to trade.

President Trump has a BS in economics from Wharton, one of the top American business schools, European Conservative. Something else is going on than stupidity or ignorance.

#4  The US restricts dairy imports just as much as Canada does.

I also note that Trump is focused on tangible products only. The U.S. runs a major surplus when it comes to intangible products and services... the future btw. Even with Germany. I don't see him complaining about that.

Republicans used to be smarter when it came to trade.

#2  What happens when you have an elite that trade entirely in intangibles? There were rumblings in the past by the old aristocracies that only saw wealth as land, land with rent paying peasants and farms producing their crops. But these are tangible things just as a hammer, a car, or a PC is.
The New Wealthâ„¢ was money, intellectual property and the like. But consider this: in the day after the Tulip Craze or the South Sea Bubble, where is the wealth that you made now?
