Afaq Ahmed steps down from MQM-Haqiqi's chairmanship over abysmal showing
2018-07-28
[DAWN] Accepting responsibility for the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi's (MQM-H) abysmal performance in the July 25 elections, party Chairman Afaq Ahmed announced on Friday that he will step down from the party's leadership.

Afaq, addressing a presser in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, said that it is now time for MQM-H to choose a new leadership. His announcement was met with severe opposition from workers present at the presser, but Afaq refused to budge, saying: "I am not among those who change their decisions".

He asked the workers of the party to form a managing committee and democratically elect a new leadership. Afaq, whose party did not win a single seat in the centre or the province, added that he had warned Mohajir politicians that the city was being taken away from them but they did not pay heed.
