| Elders Travel To Northern Somali Town To End Inter-Clan Fighting |

| [RADIOSHABELLE] Traditional traders from three towns in northern Somalia have arrived in Dhumay village in southern Sool region to gear up efforts to end clan festivities in the area. Last week, Fighting between two clans in the village claimed lives more than 50 people and injured dozens. According to reports, the elders are expected to meet with representatives from both sides to quell the hostility in the area. Elder, Suleiman Burale Adan who is one of the elders dispatch to meet the sides told the media that they are committed to convincing the sides to bury the hatchet and participate in a peace conference to be held by the elders. "Elders from Garowe, Las-Anod, and Buhodle towns have arrived in the area to urged the sides to end the fighting in Dhumay village, we are hoping that there would be a solution to end the hostility," he said. The elder called on humanitarian agencies to deliver aid in the area where thousands have been displaced by the clan festivities. Dhumey is in an area which has been claimed by both Somaliland and Puntland ...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion... for years. There had been clan festivities in the village and other neighboring localities which claimed the lives of many people mostly fighting sides. |
