Ukrainian Navy: Russia's coast guard opens fire on Ukrainian boats in the Azov Sea (DEVELOPING)
2018-11-25
[Kyiv Post - via Weasel Zippers] The Ukrainian Navy has reported that Russian coast guard boats opened fire on three Ukrainian boats in the Azov Sea on the evening of Nov. 25. Ukraine's small armored artillery boats Berdyansk and Nikopol sustained damage and were immobilized. Tugboat Yani Kapu, which had been rammed by a Russian coast guard boat earlier today, was also forced to stop.

All three vessels have been seized by Russian special ops unit, the Ukrainian Navy press service reports.

Two Ukrainian naval officers have reportedly been wounded.

President Petro Poroshenko has convened a military cabinet for an emergency meeting, his spokesman Svyatoslav Tsegolko wrote on Twitter.

#6  Kerch is where their newly built bridge to Crimea is. So yes, they consider that their territory.

This has been building since the Ukrainians seized the Russian fishing trawler Nord last spring.

#3  Mariupol is the major Ukrainian steel making center and the main port for steel exports.

During the initial Russian invasion of the Donbass, they thought they would take Mariupol and it's industries (steel, shipyards, heavy vehicles, chemicals). The Russians were stopped cold several times by lightly armed Ukrainian volunteers.

#1  Act of War if they were in Ukranian or international water. How is the border defined there now after the Russian seizure of the Crimea? Are the Russians trying to deny access via the Kerch straits to the Ukranian coast and ports on the Azov? That could be considered an acto of war as well.
