Karachi man booked for attempted suicide after climbing electric pole in 'protest' |

[DAWN] Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... police on Wednesday started the paperwork but haven't done much else against a man over charges of attempting suicide and others, after he climbed an electric pole in Korangi area reportedly to protest against police’s alleged harsh attitude and to "have other demands fulfilled". Awami Colony police booked Mohammed Shakir under Sections 325 (attempt to commit suicide) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or for shorter terms) of the Pakistain Penal Code. The area's Station House Officer (SHO) Shahid Khan, said the case had been registered on behalf of the state and the suspect was tossed in the calaboose Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! . Shakir on Wednesday afternoon climbed a pole of high-tension wires passing through the Korangi neighbourhood. |
