| What does teaching philosophy in Saudi Arabia mean? |

Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... is witnessing is not only limited to economic growth or common traditional plans but it also includes other fields such as culture and education. News that philosophy will be introduced to high schools in Saudi Arabia has been the talk of those interested in the field, and also got its share of media coverage, educational analysis and intellectual debate. There has been an old debate between experts in teaching philosophy and it can be summed up in two points. The first one thinks that teaching philosophy in certain manners may produce a mentality that lacks comprehension and understanding. This is an extreme elitist vision, as philosophy is not a scientific branch but a non-written critical thinking system. The second opinion is that teaching philosophy marks the minimum of critical thinking and liberation of the mind from the captivity of ready-made answers. |

| #3 Philosophy, at some point, exalts Human Reason. Islam the submission to the Will of Allah that can not be understood by humanity. Notice the problem here? TL/DR: I think BP's #2 FeckAll^-1, pretty much summed it up admirably. |

| #1 A more moderate Islam would be good. Are they going to dump Sharia Law and the Quran? Are they going to clean out Wahhabism and Salafism? Also They better check out some of the stuff in Western philosophy that passes as philosophy very carefully and with great deliberation--Just saying. |
