Brotherhood connection: German state puts Turkish organization under scrutiny
2019-01-11
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said in a statement published on Wednesday (January 9, 2019) that the Ottoman Turkish Islamic Union might be subject to a control by the Constitution Protection Authority Homeland intelligence Agency.

"What is especially alarming is the invitation sent to representatives of the Moslem Brüderbund to attend a seminar recently held in Cologne
...the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth populated city in Germany....
," he said.

"The group adopts positions that cannot be reconciled with the requirements of the German constitution. Therefore, the state must be vigilant in this regard," he is quoted by DW to have said.

Also a prominent member of the European Parliament for the Christian Social Party of Bavarian, criticized the efforts of Ottoman Turkish President Recep Erdogan to put all people with Ottoman Turkish roots throughout Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
under his influence.

The member of the Green Party, Jim Ozdemir, also criticized the Cologne seminar, saying it "shows that President Erdogan is continuing to extend his arm in Europe."

’FOREIGN INFLUENCE’
German government commissioner for religious freedom, Marcos Grobel, also rejected the "Foreign political influence on Moslems who are living in Germany."

The Union, based in Cologne, is under the supervision of the Ottoman Turkish Religious Affairs Office in Ankara. German outlets reported that imams of some Ottoman Turkish mosques in Germany responded to the request of the Ottoman Turkish Consulate General to inform them about the followers of the preacher Fathullah Gulen.

In the past years, the Union received funds from various German state funds, within projects that work to prevent radicalization among Moslem youth.

The Federal Government has already confirmed that it has reviewed the existing support mechanism and has not approved new requests for support from the Union since 2017.
