Nation's Gen Xers Announce Plan To Just Sit Back And Enjoy Watching Boomers, Millennials Tear Each Other To Shreds
2019-03-08
[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐The nation's population of Gen Xers announced Thursday they would be continuing their policy of just sitting back and enjoying watching boomers and millennials blame each other for everything.

"We're just gonna slowly back away and stay out of the crossfire," said Mike Ganders, 49. "The boomers are blaming the millennials for everything, the millennials pin all their problems on the boomers---and frankly, I'm OK with this arrangement."

Boomers often accuse millennials of ruining the nation by being lazy, not buying houses, and eating avocado toast. Millennials, in turn, point out that boomers put the nation on a trajectory of growing debt and borrowing from future generations to fund their own lifestyles and also still haven't figured out how to use Facebook. In the meantime, savvy members of Generation X suddenly realized that they were completely off the hook for their own faults, and so decided to simply watch from a safe distance as the generations that bookend them blast each other constantly.

"We kinda have it made," Ganders added. "We get all the benefits of the boomers' unsustainable social programs and get to be a little bit lazy like the millennials, and yet they skip right over us and blame the other guy."

Gen Xers did state they have one regret they will take full responsibility for: allowing grunge music to spread unimpeded.

#8  Half of Gen X will get social security, half will be screwed like the millennials. I think Gen X knew this and hopefully are preparing for it.

#7  Yeah, those darn boomers...living under threat of nuclear holocaust from the day they were born. Lucky they never launched that one. But if they hadn't elected Ronald Reagan the USSR would still be in business. Never learned how to play video games so they always want to play outside. That's weird. They don't like socialism and they all think borders should be secure.

#6  Gen X is going to be the generation that pays for it all.

It seems to me that the Millennials are paying into Social Security, etc. at twice the level that we Gen X-ers did at the same age, and they won’t get anything back. The generation that really raked it in compared to what they paid in — creating the situation that the Boomers are being blamed for — was the pre-Baby Boom Silent Generation, born during the Great Depression and WWII. The Baby Boomers have been seeing retirement ages raised and cost of living increases disappear just as they reach retirement age. So yes, they did increase benefits without much thought, but they were adding gingerbread trimming to the house that FDR designed and the Silents built.

#5  It's amusing satire, but it reveals a deeper, sadder truth for Xers.

The dominant partners in the "triumvirate" of generations are the Mills and Booms.

It's Octavian versus Antony, with Lepidus shunted off to the side.

#4  Gen X is going to be the generation that pays for it all. Pay for the boomer retirements and the millennial basic income, all the while locked out of senior positions because if the boomers retire, they go broke a week later.

#3  Yep BP, my generation screwed up big time...or you can blame our over-indulgent parents.

I saw a distinct difference in boomers depending on the ages of their parents. Those parents who were adults in the '30s were much different in their attitudes towards the children than the ones who were young in the 40's.

#2  and both are right.

Boomers really screwed things up more though IMHO.

#1  Once again BB's satire is pretty much true - Howe & Strauss book 'Generations' addresses the idea
