Victims of ISIS see little reason to celebrate victory over the caliphate |
2019-03-24 |
[Rudaw] The so-called caliphate of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... is no more. Kurdish-led forces in Syria delivered the group its final blow in Baghouz, announcing the "total elimination" of the caliphate on Saturday morning. It was also the Kurds collectively who dealt the first blow to ISIS in Kobane in 2014. Though ISIS is militarily defeated, it has permanently changed the Middle East ‐ from the smallest of minority communities to the global standing of nations. |
