2019-04-15 |
[ALMASDARNEWS] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the US "blitzkrieg" to replace the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro![]() has failed, speaking at a meeting of the Council on Foreign and Defence Policy in Moscow on Saturday. Lavrov went on to say that nevertheless the US "hasn’t left the goal of overthrowing the legitimate president" of Venezuela. "In my opinion, yesterday’s interview of [the US Secretary of State] Mike Pompeo, where he clearly stated that military intervention is not excluded, directly evidences this," Lavrov stated. Russian top diplomat said, however, that Russia continues to work with the US where it is "in the interests" of both countries, mentioning "dialogue on counter-terrorism," the "deconflicting mechanism in Syria," as well as contacts on Afghanistan, the Korean Peninsula, and "practical cooperation in Space." |
