#15  Big opportunity for third world nations to fill the cheap-junk gap.

#14  Give people don't buy China's exports, what will China do with all its toxic waste?

#13  The question is, will we be able to persevere in the face of the massive PR, lobbying and cataclysmic threats that will come if we do that? 1950's America would have that resolve, but look around folks.....?

Doesn't help when crooked fools like Biden take Chinese bribes and pretend that Trump is crazy. The Chinese can almost be forgiven for deciding to hang tough with Trump in the hope that Biden will beat him in 2020. They'd much rather deal with a soft headed fool like Biden than a hard headed realist like Trump.

#12  Yes, Besoeker. And when you think about the markups that makes possible, it's no wonder the globalists are freaking out about Trump's China policy.

BTW, I did NOT buy that shirt.

#11  The long game economic strategy of China and the immediate gratification, naïve mindset of the west over the past 20+ years has led to the de-industrialization of the US and massive deficits in the trading balance. We have literally elevated a near 3rd world country to near first world status, let them pillage our intellectual property, bribe our policy makers and pretend that are near=peer "friends".. we are deeply in debt and theyt are ascendant, but cannot sustain their economy if we stop buying their crap...we need to do exactly what Trump is doing, and SUSTAIN it for years while we take the pain and invest in our manufacturing base. The question is, will we be able to persevere in the face of the massive PR, lobbying and cataclysmic threats that will come if we do that? 1950's America would have that resolve, but look around folks.....?

#9  Ref #8: The Chinese shirts were only $12. until they had..... destroyed all domestic U.S. manufacturing. The prices were then adjusted to reflect the new reality.

#8  I was in a high-end department store looking for a shirt. I found one that I thought looked good, looked at the price tag and then to see where it was made. It was made in China and the price tag was $120 for actually a basic, plain cotton shirt. So, wait a minute. Are you telling me that we can't make shirts in this country that stores could sell at a profit for less than $120?

#7  Considering we can get by without Chinese products with just a little pain, but they can't get by without selling us their stuff... I would say hit 'em hard and fuck them up.

#6  I just see a lot of Jobs exported by those who incorrectly ignored economics and thought the best tariff is zero, even though the land values in each country are vastly different.

#5  If you've been watching our stock market drop like it has this week and you suspect we've got a serious trade issue with another international trade 'partner'.... you might be correct.

#4  Our imports of Chinese junk quality merch is 3 times our exports to China. 300% in their favor currently. Thanks to bribes paid to family members pf US politicians such as Biden's son.

#3  There's essentially nothing manufactured in the US that comes in at a price point Chinese would buy. But no way will the media or chamber of communism or bidness roundtable admit that.

#2  â€˜As an Industry, We Cannot Survive’ — Fashion Reacts to Trump’s New China Tariff Hike

Not a lot of concern here. I've never been fashionable.

I will miss the plaid seatcovers.

#1  The tariffs will impact a wide range of U.S. products, including coffee, beef, salmon, flowers and some fruits and vegetables.

Yeah, OK we consume a lot of that here.
We can use more.
