#2 They’re all the real Islamic State — just a bunch of self-organizing, loosely linked independent groups whose loyalty moves to whoever will pay them more, train them more, or has the latest best press. Later they’ll be Al Qaeda again, or the newest spreading thing. The only fixed thing is their family relationships and youthful friends; even their parents’ loyalties do not remain their own.
