#4  Agreed they will have to find a way out of this without destroying HK's economic impact. It might go away for a year or two, but China will be back. I expect to see selected targeting of the organizers of this event. They will all disappear as they have embarrassed the Chinese government, a sin worse than war. Once the organizers are gone, they will move back in to control HK. Like the scorpion and the frog, China cant help itself...

#3  If China destroys Hong Kong's prosperous trade zone right now, while the rest of their economy is spiraling into the toilet, look for more protests and a loss of civil control throughout the rest of the nation. They need the money generated here, even though I don't think they appreciate just how much they need it.

#2  They're not going to taper off. This is going to end one of two ways: China finally kills its golden goose (which is what I think is most likely) or China decides to back off and pretend to respect its treaty obligations for another couple of years while it tries to find its footing and maybe wait out Trump's trade war.

#1  They should taper off now. Tactically sound to retreat. If they have Lam replaced, who knows what could take her place. China is going nowhere, it will be back. It just has too many problems of its own right now.
