'Arab world is losing its religion in response to Islamists – but misogyny, homophobia and approval for 'honour killings' is still rife

"We're keeping all the fun parts"
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • In the last six years those who said they were 'not religious' rose from 8% to 13% across the Arab world

  • The change was more pronounced in countries which went through Arab Spring, including Tunisia and Libya

  • The data suggests a backlash against Islamist factions taking control after the removal of secular dictators

  • But longstanding views on homosexuals and females remains largely unmoved despite a decrease in faith

#3  I daresay they _have_ been introduced to those concepts, with the lie that this is what the West is about, by the radical factions who rely on the resulting revulsion to keep the masses loyal to "Pure Islam." The radicals' job is made easier by our elites, who seem to dislike the West as much as the Wahabbis do.

#2  True. Misogyny is an intrinsic part of Arab culture, even pre-islam. Misogyny, malanthropy, feud, murder, loot and domination - to justify these very traits of dysfunctional communities and take political advantage of them was the cult established. These things can never be subtracted from islam or any derivative of it, because they are the substratum on which the entire ideology stands.

I'm all for introducing atheism, gay rights, abortion, drug addled navel gazing and other 'progressive' concepts to all muslims.

#1   the 'not religious' question did have two points to work with

the misogyny, etc. questions seem to only have been part of the second survey

of course you could say that misogyny, etc. is actually part, maybe the most important part, of the religion
