The Alpha platoon SEAL Team 7 which was splintered by Edward Gallagher's trial: Once close group of sailors now considers itself split into two 'brotherhoods' - one which tolerates war crimes and one which doesn't

[Daily Mail, where American gets its news] Utter nonsense. It wasn’t about nobly repudiating war crimes, but about viciously ganging up to destroy the sergeant who had required them to live up to the SEAL standards of performance, and to keep him from getting the Silver Star he’d earnt despite them.

#12  Lots of truth in those movies, Procopius.

#11  I made my LTs watch the Cain mutiny.

#10  #5 Always believed all newly minted LTs should have a mandatory class showing Breaker Morant, Gallipoli, and Paths of Glory. The latter was inspired by the French Army mutinies of 1917.

#9  He's dodging his beatdown cause he knows it's gonna hurt. Where can he go? Not to another team.

#8  So we are going to listen to the gospel from some left leaning anti American rag? Really, so lets break this down. He goes on trial. The team seems split in the court room on him. The guy that spoke out against him loses his slot at team Six. The medic, prosecutions ringer, get immunity to testify and then confesses to the killing. Looks to me like team 7 played this like some B movie plot and won. The team was tight, everyone played their part, and he is free from prison. A win win for team 7 after some do gooder let it get out of control. I wonder where the guy that blew the whistle on him is now...

#7  This whole thing seems to be a good way to destroy a military.

#6  No they don't. The rest of the teams know that many of team 7 were dirtbags. After the deployment, most of the dirtbags were quietly reassigned to desk jobs or allowed an early ETS.

#5  From the Daily Mail title, no political agenda there whatsoever...

B, thank you for the Lieut Morrant reminder. A friend to me to see "Breaker Morrant" movie in 1980. Chilling story of battlefield politics worthy of Obama's military today.

#4  As mentioned here yesterday I believe, the political component must always be examined. Lieut Morrant's grave in Church Street Cemetery, Pretoria lies vandalized and unlike the foto, overgrown and weed infested.

#3  Right. There is no place for dissension in specialist units. Whoever is of two minds must be given their cushy asshole desk and left to play the staff games.

#2  No mention of officers, measures to facilitate unit cohesion, or leadership responsibility. War crimes are not an option.

These are small elements. Malcontents and non-team players can be quickly identified. They are sailors first. Reassign them to less stressful, less demanding units back in the rear with the gear. Do it quickly.

#1  There's always people who want to move to the carpeted suite of offices. They play company politics to get there.
