Texas fireworks stand robbery goes badly
2019-07-05
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 19-year-old who attempted to rob a fireworks stand in north Harris County ended up getting shot in the face with his own gun by one of the stand's employees, according to deputies.

It happened off of the North Freeway and Airtex Drive around 4 p.m. Thursday. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the suspect approached the stand and began demanding money.

They say an employee went to grab cash and placed it on the counter. The suspect placed the gun down and tried to pick up the cash.

That's when deputies say the employee picked up the gun and shot him in the face.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital. It's unclear if he's expected to survive.

This is a developing story. Stay with Eyewitness News for updates.

#12  There won't be any charges since the crook intended to pick the pistol after recovering the loot. An intention that can be inferred by the totality of the situation.

#9  Honestly, it's very unlikely they would charge him. You never know if the guy has a knife or other weapon or he's alone. He was committing armed robbery, so stopping him with lethal force IS permitted. At least by my understanding of Texas law and I have taken the class here for carrying. Plus it's not like the guy had been tackled or anything so he was still free to act.

#8  County Sheriffs and north side of Houston suburbs means Not Blue State Austinâ„¢. Close range, was the bad guy's gun not theirs, fireworks and Not Austin, so go to a Jury Trial if it gets that far.

#7  Once the employee had the gun the suspect was no longer presenting a deadly threat so I expect the employee will be subject to both criminal and civil penalties, even in Texas.

Easily dissuaded by a terrorism charge of 'felony committed in the proximity of explosives'.

"Excuse me, sir, but your behavior is rude and churlish. Kindly cease. *BLAM*"

We're all about being polite in Texas.
