Blue Bell ice cream licker could face 20 years in prison
2019-07-05
[NYPOST] The woman filmed licking the top of a Blue Bell ice cream tub and putting it back on the shelf has been identified ‐ and could cool her heels in jail for up to 20 years.

Police in Lufkin, Texas, said Wednesday they believed they had identified the frozen-treat fiend after "detectives had obtained surveillance video placing a woman matching the suspect description in the Lufkin [Walmart] on June 28 around 11 p.m," NBC News reported.

They are waiting to verify her identity before issuing an arrest warrant on second-degree tampering with a consumer product ‐ a felony that carries a prison sentence of 2-20 years and up to $10,000 in fines, according to the Texas state penal code.

The now-viral video shows the woman tonguing some Tin Roof-flavored ice cream ‐ then putting the lid back on and placing it back on the shelf as she cackles.

Dairy detectives are also trying to find the man who apparently filmed the incident and can be heard encouraging the woman to "lick it, lick it."

Local authorities have said they recovered the tainted tub after tracking it to a Walmart in Lufkin.

#13  #11 - Double agree. Fry her and the tool who video'd and put her up to - as she's apparently a minor. 70 years' probation then smack the shit out of her if she misbehaves/didn't learn.

They've ID'd her

#12  Having seen pictures of the little darling prankster and her encouraging companion, I wonder what infectious diseases she left on the container lid. 20 years wouldn't be enough for some illnesses.

#11   Wait.. now that's just excessive.

Permit me to retort.
First, 2 to 20 is the range for the felony of tampering with a consumer product. She has not yet been convicted or sentenced.

Second, what is the cost of her actions? Leaving aside the sacred nature of Blue Bell ice cream in Texas, is it simply a 5 dollar tub of ice cream? Plus the cost of the similar tubs that were destroyed, just in case? The damage to the brand? Tylenol(tm) took a huge hit after a product tampering scare way back when. Is it the loss of social cohesion when we can no longer trust our fellow citizens? On her social media account, she mentioned she had been sick and made a Flu Bell ice cream joke.

Third, punishment serves not just to chastise the perp, but to remind any would-be copycats that an unpleasant fate awaits them. This is worse than minor vandalism. Last thing we need is for it to turn into one of those viral social media challenges.

tl;dr: this sort of behavior chaps my caboose and I hope she gets spanked hard. Pity her parents didn't do it.

#10  Crap. I really like Blue Bell, and now the copycats are going to come out in droves.

#9  Glad they caught her. Glad she is being prosecuted. Agree that 20 years would be a ridiculous sentence for this crime.

#7  The Listeria contamination and subsequent closing to rectify matters nearly put them out of business. Their dairy providers had all that milk and they had to do something with it. Some found other buyers. This women needs to feel the full force of the law, so that others may learn.

#6  Blue Bell had a huge recall back in 2016 after a listeria scare. I imagine Blue Bell wasn't too thrilled about this young lady's prank.

#4  It’s not excessive, it is precisely what is needed.

#3  â˜º Nice.

The world is crazy. If she had been a Kardashian, people would be falling over each other to bid for the tub.

#2  Here's the scoop, get a good attorney. Make the case that ice cream was too cold for second degree tampering. Maybe the judge will rule in her flavor and turn the whole thing into a float.
