#2 The riverine Arabs and their army myrmidons are buying time and not about to give up power. As proved by the Revolution of 1989, the Umma Party of Sadiq al-Mahdi doesn't stand a chance in the face of military resistance. The military will use the rest of the year to clear out the dead wood, exile the most egregious corruptocrats in the government and the military, and they will take charge as the common lethargy will return to Kharoum/Omdurman.

Power has finally been consolidated by the junta, and the opposition has sufficient dead 'uns to understand resistance is futile.
