US politician insists on chaperone for interview with female reporter
2019-07-12
[BBC] A Republican candidate for Mississippi governor has refused to be interviewed by a female reporter unless she brings a male colleague with her.

Larrison Campbell, 40, said she had asked to shadow Robert Foster on a 15-hour "ride-a-long" on his campaign, but was denied because of her sex.

Mr Foster said he was acting out of precaution and he did not want to raise any suspicions about his marriage.

"This is my truck, and in my truck we go by my rules," he said on CNN.

During the CNN interview with Campbell and Mr Foster on Thursday, the 36-year-old gubernatorial candidate cited his religion and faith, arguing he had made a vow to his wife to not be alone with someone of the opposite sex.

He cited the late Christian evangelist Billy Graham, who had said he would not spend time alone with any woman who was not his wife, as well as Vice-President Mike Pence, who has said he will not eat alone with a woman other than his wife.

#23  This is stupid. Why not install an a/v recording setup in your study and record every meeting. Can be done in a car too. Chaperone...pfft ! Casuistic superfluity.

If people become paranoid like this, afraid to meet people, to communicate one on one, even to face women, the mad dykes have got their victory. A man with unassailable integrity doesn't have to bother with these encumbrances. Even if I go to prison for a false charge, hated by other men, fear should not dictate my attitudes. God will take care of the rest.

#22  i wouldn't want too be alone for 15 hours with someone besides my kids or SO anyway. Especially someone i didn't know and a reporter.

#21  Every politician should include a chaperone when meeting with any reporter. Including recording the interview yourself. The technology today combined with dishonest media can create fake news very easily.

#14  I think a lotta spammers use that word, Raj. Just say they're playing for the other team.

#13  YES!, Billy Graham always had his motel room checked before he entered. They tried to set him up. A male can no longer be seen alone anywhere with a female. This includes all professions. Especially those known to have potential to win large sums of money or to gain some political advantage.

#12  Come on Raj, the woman on woman descriptor is only allow when used to reflect victimhood or virtuosity.

#11  Basically words related to sex and gambling. Although "poozlicious" seems to be OK.

#10  Figuring out why a post was rejected is a good puzzle game that I always look forward to when it happens. My advice is copy your comment text to the clipboard before you post so you don't have to re-type it. As for the words in question, I don't think they are all that hard to suss out and in this age of SJW meltdowns Fred is just protecting his work and all of us as well.

#8  You know what else would be cool? Having Fred (or whoever else) publicize the words that aren't allowed here so I can sanitize further comments. Which is just lovely...

#5  I ran into a similar situation yesterday. I was about to be left alone in an office withy myself and a black female employee (newbie) around 6:00 PM, as she and a(nother) semi-trusted female (prefers other women) employee were about to leave. I quickly started to shut down my computer when the employee who prefers other women (whom I've been with the only other female employee many times in the past) said 'she'll be back for her stuff and then she'll leave', closest words to that effect. I was too busy responding to a potentially difficult situation, so when they left I wrote on a piece of paper '7/11/2019, 6:00 PM EDT' and showed it to both HDTV cameras in the office while they were out. The other one comes back up a few minutes later, then she splits 12 minutes later with us exchanging brief pleasantries. I did not budge from my chair until 6:35, well within the view of both cameras. I took a one minute leak, then split just after 7:00.

Normally the president of the company is there (we're tight) and it's not a problem, but this time around he was not, so I covered my ass, which is required nowadays. I will not put myself in that position to have someone take a shot at me.

I do not know this other woman, therefore I do not trust her. Anyone thinking otherwise is a fool / buffoon.

#4  Would you like to see the post in question yourself?

#3  You know what would be really cool? Fred & Co. posting a list of banned words & phrases so I could make an incredibly salient point here, as I had something happen to me like this yesterday. I removed every profanity (no links) and yet it is rejected time and time again.

Come on, folks...

#1  a 15-hour "ride-a-long"

Curious spelling there, Missus Beeb. Was an editorial intern having fun, or was the second hyphen deliberately inserted by the author?

I'd be suspicious too if someone told me she wanted to "ride a long ____...."

But for 15 hours?

Whew! tomcat....
