| #13 Thank you all for your support. I do not like doing such things, but sometimes a sharp swat on the behind is necessary to fix the attention, and sometimes a time out is needed. Shipman spent a memorable six months finding Roadside America when he aimed here, but subsequently agreed it helped him re-center himself. And some — after several tries — have never been allowed to return, much as we fondly remember what they were like before running amok. |

| #11 Thank you TW. I saw HM's latest, 3 posts late last night, before TW deleted them. Every one of them was incendiary and race-based. There's a risk mitigation angle here. Rantburg cannot afford to have that stuff on its site. We/Fred will get scrutiny - from the GOOG borg, from corporate and governmental entities that employ Rantburgers, from god knows who else. Not worth the risk. Bye bye HM. |

| #9 I can only speculate what set off the kerfuffle in #1, however... Rantburg may be the only site on the entire interwebs where I make a point of reading all the comments. Most places, comment threads degenerate into name-calling, stale talking-points repeated over and over, and attempts to "own" the other side. Boring! And childish. Even though I'm really smart and generally right about pretty much everything, I'm willing to entertain alternative and even contradictory theories on current events. Who knows, I might learn something! But I have zero interesting in name-calling, insults and long-discredited talking points. Comments here are all over the map - insightful analysis, background info from those who know or were there (the infamous Rantburg U!), clever snark, poetry of varying quality, and general silliness. Good stuff! If it takes some moderation to preserve that, then I am most grateful to those doing the work, as well as to our host who makes the whole mess possible. Thanks! |

Y’all will notice that Rantburg is not a federal institution established by laws passed in Congress. It is a private effort, established by Fred using his own funds and extensive efforts, with additional donations from many Rantburgers. We are guests in Fred’s living room, and those who abuse that hospitality are not welcome. Herb McCoy was abusive in his first post shortly after midnight, and got worse in each of his posts thereafter. He is entitled to his opinions, certainly. But those opinions he aired in the wee minutes of the day were more suited to a blog of his own, paid for by his own efforts. I do not have the energy to deal with his unamusing trollery, and refuse to do so any longer. When he is willing to engage thoughtfully instead of acting like a door-slamming pre-teen, he will be welcome back. |
