Couple decide not to have children because of climate change | |
2019-07-28 | |
[YAHOO] A newlywed couple are willing to give up their dream of starting a family in order to help save the planet. Ella Starling, 27, and her husband Jackson, 29, are committed environmental activists and had always planned to have children together. But the couple fear that the “planet is not right for a baby” and after extensively researching the risks that come hand-in-hand with climate change, have drawn to the conclusion that bringing a child into the world would be “unfeasible” right now. “The decision to not have children hurts, but I am not convinced the future of our planet is right for a baby,” Ella admitted. “I get a lump in my throat every time I think about not having a family but until the government responds and takes action, I refuse to have a family.” The newlyweds from Pembrokeshire believe that over the next decade, the world will face higher death rates due to increased air pollution, the regularity of extreme weather and food shortages caused by crop failure.

#13 Just a convenient fig leaf. What they meant to say was, "We're having too much fun gratifying our needs to waste money on some stupid kid." |

#10 Wow. I learn something new everyday at The 'Burg. PBMcL, two are left ! Their moms and dads did the dirty it seems. Let's hope they don't. The two last Shakers Darwin forgot. |

#9 The Shakers were never in charge of the gov't to impose their lunacy on others. |

#8 There used to be a sect (the Shakers?) that decided reproduction was sinful, therefor prohibited. Oddly enough, after a few years there weren't any more Shakers. We can only hope that the Climate sect will go the same way. Unlike the Shakers, however, they can do a lot of damage before they're gone. |

#7 Could be a good thing that this couple elected to not have children. |

#5 The movie was intended for entertainment not as a How To guide. |

#4 ...and after extensively researching the risks that come hand-in-hand with climate change, ...a reasonable person should have drawn the exact opposite conclusion. When I used to read Deadspin (I quit about a year ago), there was this one writer who was positively in doomsayer mode, writing about imposing a carbon tax and the usual garbage. I wrote to him - 'Of all the hundreds, perhaps thousands of alarmist predictions made by people about our climate over the past forty years, name me one that turned out to be right. Just one'. Naturally I never got a response. For me this is all you need to do to bury some nitwit parading this nonsense around. |

#3 It's probably better they not reproduce. |

#2 Good. The woman sounds exactly like the kind of mothers who drown their babies in bathwater, chatting up with Auntie Leslie on video-call. Or are seen taken away by cops amid murmurs of recurring SIDS cases in the family. |
