Mediterranean migrant rescue ship running low on food: Doctors Without Borders
2019-08-23
[DW] There are 356 migrants colonists on the Ocean Viking ship, which has not been allowed to dock by Italian and Maltese authorities for two weeks. The vessel picked up several groups of migrants colonists but is running out of food.

The Doctors Without Borders (MSF) charity group said Thursday that its rescue ship is running out of food supplies for 356 migrants colonists.

The Norwegian-flagged Ocean Viking ship, which MSF operates with another aid group, SOS Mediterranee, has picked up several groups of migrants colonists since it set sail in early August.

"Only five days of standard food rations left," said MSF logistician onboard the Ocean Viking. "Our medical team is increasingly concerned about a rapid deterioration in the state of people's mental health," the group said on Twitter.
Then cut back. They're "starving refugees", amirite? Let them do the status quo
"356 survivors stranded for 13 days. Still no place of safety assigned," it added.

The vessel has a crew of 31 and is equipped with a clinic and four high-speed rescue boats, with a capacity to take in up to 200 migrants colonists, according to MSF.
That’s almost 80% over capacity. Any halfway decent safety inspector would shut down their operation.
The Ocean Viking has stranded between Malta and the Italian islands of Lampedusa and Sicily for more than two weeks.
Y’all might want to consider the possibility that you’re going to have to return them to sender before they turn pirate or cannibal.
Most of the migrants colonists on the ship are reportedly from Sudan. They include more than 100 children ‐ around 90 of them unaccompanied, MSF said. Three children are under the age of five, it added.

#7  Still no place of safety assigned.

That's why they won't return them to Libya, it has been deemed unsafe, although it was safe enough for the sub-Saharan migrants colonists to disembark for Europe there. Indeed, the do gooders should be arrested, charged with human trafficking and their ships impounded, scuttled or sold at auction.

#6  ...I seem to recall some of our fathers and grandfathers embarked upon ships expecting a very very warm welcome at the disembarkation destinations.

#5  It should be normal procedure for all journeys to know that you'll be welcome at the end of it.

#4  I suspect it's not legal to take on passengers without being able to provide for them; if lifeboats are a requirement, food and water are, too. MSF should be shut down for operating an unsafe passenger line. Or for slave-taking; their motives aren't clear.

#2  You can't just take any ship anywhere and dock ! There is maritime law. The shipping licenses should be cancelled and all these do-gooders jailed for trafficking and abetting criminal trespass of ports and infiltration by just whoever can make pathetic faces at a camera and give a sob story.

#1  What makes you think you have enough of those things to feed them when they get to your home Country.
