#25  There was a story about the New York City ratters on NPR a while back.

#24  That's a satisfying video.

Even better is Robin Foxer's series on YT:

#23  Google shows:
JT Eaton 709-PN Bait Block Rodenticide Anticoagulant Bait, Peanut Butter Flavor, for Mice and Rats (9 lb Pail of 144)

Why have we chosen it? The product contains the active ingredient Diphacinone that is more toxic to rats than other slow-acting compounds. Still, it requires multiple dose treatment. As a rule, the solution works within a week. The product comes in convenient blocks and is flavored with peanut to attract rodents.

#22  Had a tractor. Had a terrier.
Barn rats climbed all over the tractor.
Terrier ate the seat, dash, wiring harness, whatever smelled of rat.

#21  More than 50 years ago I had to do a paper in my Poli Sci seminar on Rat Control Legislation. (not my choice of topic, we got assigned at random)

All I remember is that there were upwards of 75 anti-rat programs from the Feds and they all were a waste of money. Most of them were agricultural but a fair number were for slums....ahhhh DC at work.

#20  He did scare some donkeys once. But he drew the line at bulls.

#19  Dron, were elephants beyond his reach?

#18  Cat's can't tell the difference between rodents and politicians. Might work in other cities but not in the state capital.

#17  I think my dog was notorious among the rats in my building. It was a government allotted house in Delhi and shabby on the upkeep, so there were rats. A neighbor actually saw a rat die of fright on seeing him coming. It just skipped in the air and fell down dead. Once, a big rat simply ran off a ledge and preferred to fall seven stories below.

He was a bull terrier, 36 kilos of just muscle. He killed one huge monkey, two dogs, some cats and I don't know how many other small things. The monkey he ripped in two. I still remember, I had to pay the local temple to take it away, since it was a symbol of their deity... ohh those days.

#16  Dogs are actually more effective ratcatchers than cats.

#15  I'm not a cat fan, but wouldn't releasing feral cats help take care of the rats.
On the other hand, terriers were, IIRC, specifcally bred to kill rats.

#14  Sacramento's historic Old Town by the river is pretty cool. Other side of the freeway starts the shithole

#13  And poop in the streets....

#12  #1 Socialism and rats

Yes.

We had a rat problem at one time that came about from feeding birds. Birdseed fell to the ground around the feeder and attracted rats. While Mrs. JohnQC and I deliberated what to do, our German Shepard went quietly about catching them and stacking them up. End of problem.

#11  Well, that head line got my hopes up for a start of a trend.

#7  Watched a guy with his 3 dogs clear out an old barn, SPOD. Took about twenty minutes.

Absolutely wild.

#6  Pass a law that everyone in Sacramento has to own a Rat Terrier and end leash laws would help

#4  Sounds like they need to find some 1st level adventurers to hire. Giant rats are a classic training level.

#3  The problem with rats is that they look like, well, rats. Turn them into cute and cuddly looking prairie dogs and people forget that they're prime plague carriers. Master Splinter could not be reached for comment.

#2  Close, but rats perform an honest function and would be placed higher up on the chain.
