[TheCollegeFix] Event at Williams College to explore sci-tech’s ‘relationship to society’

#20  Well now we know not to hire POCs from Williams College. They aren't qualified due to AA measures.

#19  It'd be such a hoot if a flash mob of jokers in blackface showed up and tried to get in. Or a mob of protesters wearing this.

#18  What about us transracial folk?

#17  #13 And then womyn got on the act

#16  Sort of like applying for a 'minority' position at the Harvard Law School.

Yet another example of cynical exploitation of affirmative action by a shitty, mendacious lowlife.

#15  Not saying black guy is without talent, just saying when the bids go out, these guys put 'minority owned business' on the bid.

Sort of like applying for a 'minority' position at the Harvard Law School.

#14  * It's way past its sell-by date

#13  Aff action is way past its shelf life. It was never meant to be other than a temporary boost to try to level the playing field for one, or at most two, generations of afr-americans who had directly experienced institutional discrimination as members of an entire group. It has zero relevance to the current social or legal situation in this country.

At this point, it is nothing more than a shakedown for a group of grifter activists and an admissions scam that's primarily exploited by upper middle-class biracial professional households of the sort that produced shitty, mendacious political opportunists such as Booker, Harris, Obama et al. and shitty, mendacious lowlifes such as Jussie Smollett and the Screaming Yale Brat, Jeralyn Luther.

End Aff Action. It's way past it's sell-by date.

#12  One of my black colleagues when I worked at the big company, lo these many years ago, a recent engineering graduate from a good school, was deeply frustrated about the impact of affirmative action on his career. He was a handsome and personable young man, as well as clearly competent, but said that on first meeting everyone, including his fellow African-Americans, assumed he must have been hired only for the colour of his skin instead of his ability. He had no trouble proving that assumption wrong, but he found the whole situation frustrating.

#11  That's exactly how it is played according to what I gathered. Black man is 'majority owner' so business gets consideration or whatnot, but second/third tier is professional construction whites & hispanics.

Not saying black guy is without talent, just saying when the bids go out, these guys put 'minority owned business' on the bid.

You know. A racket.

#10  How many non-suicidal businesses will contract out their tech to a company with wakandans in important roles?

Dron, when I was growing in Soviet Union all managers were Aryan (Russian or Ukrainian), or - in the republics - local. All deputy managers were Jewish or Armenian.

#9  How many non-suicidal businesses will contract out their tech to a company with wakandans in important roles ? I doubt you'll ever see 'people of colour' in PR or as liaisons for successful firms.

#8  Yes, the RISC (Really Idiotically Stupid Computing) seminar should be fun...

#7  It's not a STEM program; it's sociologists doing "critical studies" of STEM:

"The Program in Science and Technology Studies (STS) aims to provide students with an interdisciplinary framework through which to appreciate the complex interactions between science, technology and society, and with to analyze and understand the ways science and technology give shape to, and are in turn given shape by, society, culture and history,”

#6  Maybe I need that first cup of coffee, but why can't a bunch of 'non-coloured' students just steal a few pages from the ol' civil disobedience playbook, bring along some media types and protest these guys, demanding equal rights and all that sort of thing? You know, turn things on its ear?

#5  An upcoming science and technology symposium slated to take place at Williams College... What is the tuition at Williams? 50K per annum?

#4  ^Say a degree in aeronautical science.
Posted by: g(r)omgoru   2019-09-17 07:47

#3  Could I get a definition of "scholar" here?
Posted by: AlanC   2019-09-17 07:40

#2  Why would anyone want to attend this symposium? Ie it about race, or about Sci-Tech?
Posted by: SR-71   2019-09-17 07:26

#1  They don’t want to be embarrassed when they can only find 4 sci-tech scholars of color.
