Update on "Concerning" Use of Hydroxychloroquine in Texas
2020-04-18
[American Thinker] NPR and the Houston Chronicle weren't the only outlets making (or implying) that Armstrong is an evil Republican doctor, even though his behavior was entirely within the bounds of law and ethics. All those outlets should be eating crow now. Despite being a vulnerable cohort for COVID-19 mortality (since they’re all elderly), Armstrong's patients are recovering:

"I thought the risk of seeing 15% of that nursing home die was just not an acceptable," said Dr. Robin Armstrong, MD, medical director at The Resort at Texas City.

On [Easter] Sunday, those 39 patients finished five days of treatment with hydroxychloroquine. Dr. Armstrong said no one experienced any side effects.
Another anecdote, but it didn't seem to make the national news, did it?

#9  Another anecdote, but ...

A few hundred anecdotes here, a few hundred there, and pretty soon, you're looking at real data.

#8  Side effects are many, as are contraindications: Product monograph, 26 pages

The most common ones (digestive, IIRC) go away if you stop taking the drug. Common is defined as 1-10% of users.

#7  Sorry, but, when I see "Reuters" that's the sentence comes to my mind. Just like CNN is associated with "Rubber coated metal bullets", and journalists in general are "well poisoners".

#6  But I am definitely not a fan of the pharmaceutical-industrial complex. But, if a biggie can find the right medicine to fight COVID-19 and save lives and suffering, then, great.

You may recall very recently they tried to get legislation passed in New Jersey that would absolve big pharma of any liability for [mandatory] vaccines, even if it f's up school kids. Sick, as are the politicians who go along with them.

#4  Relax Clem. In Israel, India, and half of Europe all symptomatic patients (except these with known vulnerability to HCQ - it does have side effects) get HCQ in addition to any other treatment. Dittoin USA: Special Report: Doctors embrace drug touted by Trump for COVID-19, without hard evidence it works (it's - Israelis eat Palestinian babes for breakfast - Reuters)

#3  Gilead, et al., would not be too pleased if that made the national news.

De-emphasizing (for lack of a better word) HCQ might be the true scandal in all this COVID-19 hysteria.

Unless I missed something, I am still unaware of any deaths of COVID19-infected individuals after being prescribed/taking HCQ. None.

#2  In Texas 42% of those over age 80 who get the virus die from it, as do 13% of those in their 70s 7% of those in their 60s, and 1.6% of everyone else.
