Coronavirus herd immunity? Not in Israel, according to a serological study
2020-06-02
[JPost] - Israelis are not immune to the novel coronavirus and therefore must continue to maintain Health Ministry directives, according to Prof. Dan Cohen, a member of Israel’s Epidemic Treatment Team and the head of Tel Aviv University’s School of Public Health.

Cohen helped run the country’s first serological survey to help determine how many Israelis have had SARS-CoV-2 and may have developed antibodies to protect them from contracting the virus again. The results show that only around 2% to 3% of the population has been infected, based on samples from 1,709 people from across the country.
Children (and savages) assume that whatever they wish for is true. Grownups check.

#3  ^I once posted on herd immunity. Did you know that there are no human examples of "natural" (sans vaccination) herd immunity?

In fact, if you read on swine flu, once a population becomes infected, they destroy it - instead of waiting for them to develop herd immunity. You know why? Because farmers know the fraction that'll survive isn't worth the bother.

That's why WHO, and that asshole in Sweden, and a smaller one in Stanford get my goat.

#2  Perhaps the very effective masking and social distancing prevented enough of the herd to get infected in the first place? Do our efforts gain us anything or just defer the cost - at great price? (I don't really think we know, but I do think we should at least try to address the question.) Maybe deferred infection will have great benefit, if we develop effective and safe vaccines and/or treatments in the meantime.
