"So far we have not had any issues with the PKK and the PKK has not prevented us from carrying out our duties," Zebari added. Iraqi security analyst Husham al-Hashimi puts the number of PKK fighters in Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, at between 8,500 and 10,000, distributed across 81 points and bases. |

Iraqi security analyst and Rudaw columnist Husham al-Hashimi was assassinated by unknown [*cough* Hizballah *cough*] armed groups in Baghdad on Monday night, according to Iraqi state media outlet INA. According to state-media, Hashimi was assassinated in front of his house in Baghdad's Zayuna neighbourhood. Three gunmen ambushed Hashimi and shot him at close range as he was getting into his car, an investigator told AFP. |

#1 Neither Baghdad (aka Tehran) or Ankara are 'best buddies' with the Kurds. The folks in Erbil may want to watch this very closely. |
