Democrat’s Call to Remove Gettysburg’s Confederate Statues Receives Backlash
2020-07-14
Ah, the hallowed fields of Gettysburg, where the Union Army fought a battle with someone or other. Lincoln's Gettysburg Address was 221 Main Street. He was the racist predecessor of Trump, in office when the slaves rose up and freed themselves, when black lives mattered and 600,000 others didn't.
[BREITBART] A Pennsylvania county commissioner recently called for Confederate statues at Gettysburg National Park to be removed, then deleted the online post due to major criticism.

“The only thing I could think of to do was, okay, I’ll just take it down. I actually unpublished my page for a little bit. Next week, I’ll probably bring it back up,” said Adams County Commissioner Marty Qually (D).

Qually claimed he was not trying to erase history but pointed to what happened when counterprotesters showed up at Gettysburg over the Independence Day weekend in response to online rumors about an Antifa flag burning.

Friday, ABC 27 provided screenshots of what appeared to be the commissioner’s since-deleted Facebook post.

It read:

Today, armed racist morons have come to our community responding to an obvious flag burning hoax. These racists have come to protect the confederate monuments, a made up situation which our local law enforcement had well in hand. They are walking in our community with semi-automatic weapons and confederate flags. Our local law enforcement doesn’t need the expense or the risk.

If this is the cost of having confederate monuments in Gettysburg and if this is the lesson we are to learn, then I’m out of the middle of the road. Take the confederate statues down. Our economy cannot survive a pandemic and a morondemic at the same time.

“We cannot allow our county to become a holiday destination for hate, racism, and false patriotism,” he wrote, adding that among them were “clear white supremacists, Klan members, coming to protect our monuments.”

#10  I read about the first re-enactment of " Picket's Charge " at the Battle of Gettysburg . It had veterans of that battle on booth sides of the re-enactment. It started and they couldn't complete it. They both started crying and ran into each others arms. I listen to excerpts of those Antifa White boy voices and dream of 25 mm chain guns.

#9  The North and South reconciled 100 years ago. Shame on anyone that wants them removed.

These idiots want to fight the war over, because they think the Democrats will win the next one.

#8  Huh. Before I read Marty's post, I'd thought they stopped making castrati.

#6  After killing each other for four bloody years, at the end at Appomattox, the union army received the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia. Gen Joshua Chamberlain was give the duty to receive the defeated army.

For my personal part I…have been in five battles…twice wounded myself—my horse shot—in the front line when the flag of truce came through from Lee—had the last shot + the last man killed, in their campaign; + yesterday was designated to receive the surrender of the arms of Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia.

---

Instructions had been given; and when the head of each division column comes opposite our group, our bugle sounds the signal and instantly our whole line from right to left, regiment by regiment in succession, gives the soldier’s salutation, from the “order arms” to the old “carry”— the marching salute. Gordon at the head of the column, riding with heavy spirit and downcast face, catches the sound of shifting arms, looks up, and, taking the meaning, wheels superbly…with profound salutation as he drops the point of his sword to the boot toe; then facing to his own command, gives word for his successive brigades to pass us with the same position of the manual, honor answering honor.

Joshua Chamberlain was a better man.

#5  The battles at Antietam, Bull Run, Shiloh, Chancellorsville, Cold Harbor, Vicksburg, Wilderness and Fredericksburg are probably not taught in public schools anymore, MM. It would require more research than most educators would care to perform.

I've been to all of those sites and you are correct, both solemn and educational for sure.

#3  As I commented some time back, I have not heard of any vandalism or confrontations at Antietam. I will always remember my visit there. Monuments from states on both sides of the conflict. It was a visit that was both solemn and educational for me. Two factors I don't see on the blm / antifa (I refuse to capitalize either) side.

#2  Yes, the war goes on. The North will always fight the south in all ways with their boot heal on their throats.
