  • Group of demonstrators damaged the District Attorney's office in Salt Lake City during a protest on July 9

  • Prosecutors have now filed first degree felony charges against the perpetrators, meaning they face life in prison

  • 'This is not about protest, this is about people who are engaging in criminal conduct,' Salt Lake City DA Sim Gill has stated

  • Prosecutors said the felony criminal mischief charges are more serious because they carry a 'gang enhancement'

  • Activist Madalena McNeil was asked resign from her nonprofit job and all the defendants have to post $50,000 bail

  • More than 30 people have been charged with various crimes in Salt Lake County since protests over George Floyd´s death began in late May
