The security media cell confirmed there were no casualties as a result of the attack. A source inside the Green Zone, close to the US embassy compound, confirmed to Rudaw English that sirens went off after the rocket landed.
No group has grabbed credit for the attack.
This is the fourth consecutive night in a row that rocket attacks have taken place across Iraq.
Two rockets landed near Taji military base, north of Baghdad on Saturday night, while three Katyusha rockets landed inside the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport on Friday. Three Katyusha rockets also landed inside al-Balad air base in Salahaddin province, which houses Iraq’s F-16 jets, late Thursday, according to the media cell.
The last rocket attack reported inside Baghdad’s Green Zone was on Tuesday night, which also resulted in no casualties.

Sunday’s attack is the latest of several rocket attacks targeting the Green Zone after Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (ICTS) personnel raided the headquarters of the Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia in Baghdad province on June 26, detaining at least 14 fighters of the group, who were accused of recent rocket attacks in the capital.
Multiple attacks on military bases hosting US troops have taken place since the raid, notably Taji base.
