He was not, however, able to think of a reason that would persuade them to cover the holes in the mezzanine floor with something stronger than cardboard... |

My brother shared an anecdote a friend told him about trying, and failing (!), to convince a local he was training to use a torsion wrench on a jet engine fitting (he would use a normal wrench if he wasn't watched). Often peasant farmer to trained mechanic is a step too far. |
