- A 15T UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed during what the military says was 'routine training' on San Clemente Island off the Southern California coast
- Marketta and Shelton were part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), an elite unit also known as 'Night Stalkers'
- The 160th SOAR (A) took part and provided cover for special forces in the 2011 mission in Pakistan that killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden
