Sorry. My bad.

We went down this morning and I was in bed so I didn't see it happen. I'm getting the new machine ready for its trip to Baltimore and the backup I was doing used up all our remaining disk space. I'll be more careful in the future.

That shouldn't happen with the new box. It's a Dell EMC with a Xeon processor, 32gb memory, a 6tb drive, and another 6tb for backup. Running under no load it's been steady as a rock, but we haven't had a bobble free swap yet. That will happen sometime after the election.

Dammit, Jim! I'm a programmer, not a hardware man!

#19  Thanks Fred. A bit late to the party but like so many others, not getting my Burg with the first cup is, well, like a kick in the nads.
We are all hooked on this little thing you do.

#17  LOL, although I was concerned it might have signaled initiation of blatantly open putschist activities. Yet, maybe that's already in motion with Facebook, Google/Youtube, and Twitter. I think that will escalate sharply over the next 7 days . . .

Thank you for your persistence and reliability over the years, and all you do. Truly this is the best place for civil, well reasoned discourse! No wilting violets here, and no censor -- unless you count trolls taking a trip to roadside attractions.

#16  Computer problems are always a drag, but in 2020, they can (almost) be refreshingly normal.

#13  Thanks Fred!

The first swearing in was ceremonial. Roberts conducted the real one today in a private ceremony.

#10  Thank you, Fred. I turned over and went back to sleep when I saw the Burg was down, so I’m ahead on my napping. ;-)

Just out of nosy curiosity, what happens to your old boxes after the new one proves stable? You must have gone through half a dozen or so since the original beast back on 9/11.

#2  Thanks, Fred - missed my morning Rantburg fix until now.

Hopefully those 6TB drives are standard 5400 RPM Barracudas or something like it. I scored 8TB Seagate Ironwolf drives (7200 RPM) and I noticed two big differences between the two - the Ironwolf drives make a lot more noise and if they're dormant (mine shut down after 20 minutes of inactivity), they take a lot longer to spin up to speed.
