Philadelphia mayor: Counting mail-in ballots will take 'several days'
2020-11-03
They're expecting at least 120 percent turnout...
[NYPOST] Philadelphia’s mayor warned that election workers won’t start counting mail-in ballots until Election Day — and will take "several days" to tally results — adding a critical wrinkle to the election in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania, according to a report. In an open letter to Philadelphia residents, Mayor Jim Kenney urged patience, WCAU reported Monday.

"After the polls close, and in the ensuing days, we will continue to need your patience," reads the letter signed by Kenney and Lisa Deeley, the chairwoman of the Philadelphia City Commissioners.

"Never in the history of this city have so many people voted by mail. By law, staffers are not allowed to start opening and counting these ballots until Election Day itself," it continued. "That means getting a tally of mail-in ballots will easily take several days. This may determine the outcome in Philadelphia, and in the Commonwealth as a whole. So, again, please be patient."

#13  ^ In PeeAye it's called the T. The northern half of the state and a stripe down the middle, shaped like a T. It's rural and conservative, but lots of it is sparsely populated. If you could give Philthy to New jersey and Pissburgh to Ohio (not that either would want them) PA would be as red as Texas.

#12  Thats why the margin in the western PA need to be huge. Time for the mountain folk of western PA to rise to the occasion. And with 2-3+ hours of waiting in very long lines, it looks like the turnout is massive in those Republican areas, while its "walk up no waiting" in Philly.

There will be a day where the West fails, BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!

#10  #8, these days a pack of cigs or a short dog costs more than $5, even if you are buying in bulk.

#8  Beavis, historically they drive vans around and gather up potential voters, hand them a filled-out sample ballot and 'car money' (typically $5) and drop them at the polls.

#7   ILLEGAL campaigning INSIDE of a polling location in Philly. Man in blue is handing out DEM literature to voters IN LINE TO VOTE. This is why DEMS are keeping TRUMP WATCHERS OUT. They are STEALING it! This needs to STOP!

#6  Ballots will be counted until the right results are obtained?

#4  The election bureau is a county level operation. Something's fishy if the mayor has any insight into their operations at all...

#3  How can it take longer to count 5 postal ballots than 5 DoE ballots?

Just hire one person extra to open the letters.

#2  It takes time to steam open envelops and replace 'wrong' ballots with 'corrected' ones before validating them.

#1  They only have so many fingers and toes to add up the totals on.
