![]() Step 1: Overwrite the drive containing all our backups. (Gasp. Call self an idiot.) Step 2: Break the database, and I mean seriously... (Google mightily for a couple days to find a hint how to fix it. Observation: Most hints are bullsit.) Step 3: Change DNS servers. (Been putting that off for a long time, because it’s dangerous.) Step 4: Try and figure where the Burg disappeared to. (France, at one point.) You get the idea. If you're reading this, you got here from https://grampaw.org/rantburg or you carefully entered https://www.rantburg.com, not https://rantburg.com. One works, the other doesn't, at least at the moment. Apache sez they both go to the same place, one's an alias for the other. (UPDATE: Next time I clicked on it the www link had ceased working. I hadn't done anything in the meantime...) Anyway, I'm continuing to make repairs. I'm hoping not to break anything else. Thank you for your patience, assuming you have any left. I'm pretty short, myself. At least Apache and Postgresql are shut down on the old server so I can go get it. |

#11 Whew! I was beginning to think I had died and hadn't been good enough in this life. I will try to do marginally better just in case. Thanks, Fred et al, for giving me another chance. :-) |

#9 It's been a rough couple of days for readers without Rantburg. I guess it's like an addiction. Rantingly, Bongino and Breitbart help but they're just not Rantburg. I finally did a DuckDuckGo search, found https://grampaw.org/rantburg and clicked on it. Does Fred need us to hit the tip jar? I can do that. |

#8 Thanks so very much Fred. I trust the community here at the Burg far more than other news sites, and I find the comments the highlight of most morning news reads. God bless your efforts and those here who care about this site. In the coming months we all face ugly possibilities but I am confident that here i can believe what i read, especially when is is 180 out from the MSM, and now far too often even Fox. |

#7 Observation: Most hints are bullsit. Ain't that the truth. I had the BSOD twice this year, and the hints are, for the most part, a sick joke. |

#5 Thanks Fred for your patience. Sorry for the computer/server difficulties. There are many days I curse computers. Hang in there. |

#4 Murphy's Law: Mathematically it can be stated as: "If, in any given situation, there's a 50-50 chance of getting screwed, you'll get screwed 9 times out of 10." Exception 1A: If dealing with software or hardware, the failure rate approaches unity. This is why I retired...... Seriously, Fred and minions, many thanks.... |
