[LI] In 2018, I reported that American diplomatic staff in Cuba and China were falling victim to a strange set of neurological health effects. The causes were variously attributed to sonic weapons and pesticides.Now, a report has been published by the National Academy of Sciences the "Havana Syndrome" may be the result of exposure to "directed microwave radiation."
Researchers found that "directed, pulsed radio frequency energy appears to be the most plausible" explanation for symptoms experienced by officials — including cognitive difficulties, intense head pressure and some dizziness.
This was following a reported 26 personnel being affected by unexplained hearing loss during the autumn of 2016 — sparking a diplomatic row between the two countries.
"Havana syndrome" symptoms were also experienced by Canadian diplomats and other officials at the US consulate in Guanghzhou in China around early 2017.
The report does not conclude that a weapon’s directed energy was delivered intentionally:
The report was transferred to Congress after bipartisan calls led by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat from New Hampshire who is a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees.The researchers who published the report were part of a committee assigned to look for reasons behind the diplomats’ illnesses. And while the report doesn’t determine that the radio frequency (RF) energy was "directed" and "pulsed," meaning it was targeted and not the result of ambient energy sources.

American public servants and their families — who have been targeted — have requested that Congress receive and review this report, so I’m glad the State Department heeded our bipartisan call so we can get to work.
