Taliban Bear Heavy Loss in Kandahar Battle

snuffies killed and further nine maimed in festivities with Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in Kandahar province, said the Ministry of Defense in a statement Sunday.

According to the statement, the Taliban initially attacked security posts in several districts of the province, suffering heavy retaliation.

"51 Taliban were killed and 9 others were maimed in Dand, Zheria, Arghandab, Maiwand and Shah Wali Kot districts of Kandahar Prov., after they attacked ANDSF positions, yesterday," said the MoD in a tweet.

"Also, during the reciprocal attacks of ANA, 13 IEDs were discovered and defused and 4 hideouts with a large amount of weapons and ammunitions were destroyed."

in a separate battle in Uruzgan, officials said at least 10 Taliban killed and further 10 maimed in the province, where a large amount of Taliban weapons were also wrecked during festivities.

"10 Taliban were killed and 10 others were maimed in Dehrawood district of Urzgan province, yesterday," the MoD tweeted. "Also, a large amount of their weapons and ammunitions were destroyed during reciprocal attacks of ANA."

Taliban did not immediately comment on the incident.

MoD to Investigate Civilian Casualties in Kandahar Airstrike
