[Garowe] MOGADISHU, Somalia - Al-Shabaab militants have yet again claimed to have raided Djiboutian army bases in Somalia, killing a peacekeeping mission soldier, in yet another attack targeting security forces in the Horn of Africa nation, which has struggled with instability for a couple of years.
The overnight attack, Al-Shabaab claimed, also left one soldier seriously wounded besides destroying several artillery equipment used by the defense forces. The reports are yet to be confirmed by the AMISOM team which is under the command of Lt. General Diomede from Burundi. Djiboutian troops serving in Somalia just like their colleagues in AMISOM have often come under attack from the Al-Shabaab which has been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed Somalia administration. Djibouti has close to 3,000 soldiers serving in the country. | |
