Al-Shabaab fires mortar shells in key town after top leaders arrived

[Garowe] The al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
holy warriors fired mortar shells in Dhusamareeb, the regional administrative capital of Galmadug, where the country's leaders are set to meet to discuss the pre-election standoff which has delayed elections in the Horn of Africa nation.

Reports indicate that the holy warriors fired at least 7 mortar rounds at the town just moments after the arrival of PM Mohammed Hussein Roble and President Farmajo, who are expected to chair a three-day meeting that aims at seeking a lasting solution to the electoral crisis.

At least four injuries reported after al-Shabaab holy warriors targeted Dhusamareb town with mortar shells last night. The mortars, sources said, hit residential areas just hours after Mohammed Farmajo and his PM Roble arrived in the town on Monday.
Al Masdar adds:
Somalia on Tuesday killed three Al-Shabaab Lions of Islam who carried out a mortar attack aimed at targeting a high-level government delegation in the central city of Dhusamareb, local media reported.

A barrage of mortar shells fired by the gunnies on Monday injured a police officer and civilians in Dhusamareb, where the Somali president and prime minister arrived to attend a conference on the country’s next elections.

According to the Somali state-run broadcaster, security forces rubbed out three attackers, including a senior al-Shabaab member, and injured another. They also arrested two attackers.

The state television

showed pictures of the arrested bully boys. It also displayed heavy machine guns and other weapons seized from the al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group.

The attack came a day after al-Shabaab snuffies killed at least 10 people, including a retired army general and former Defense Minister Mohammed Nuur Galal in the capital Mogadishu.

Earlier this week following pressure from the international community, President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed called on regional leaders to attend a three-day consultative summit in the city to resolve outstanding issues over the holding of timely and credible elections in the country.

The president’s mandate will expire on Feb. 8, and the country has already missed the deadline for parliamentary elections twice.
