| 1 killed, 3 wounded in shooting in Khanaqin |

| SULAIMANI — One Iraqi soldier was killed and three others were wounded in an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Khanaqin district’s Qaya area on Thursday (February 4). NRT reporter Garmian Hama Pur said that the dead soldier, who was named as Omar Ubedi, had been shot by a sniper. On Wednesday, the Iraqi Security Forces launched an operation in the district in response to an attack by ISIS militants on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) the previous day, which left five PMF fighters dead. In December 2017, the Iraqi Security Forces, in cooperation with the Peshmerga and the PMF and aided by Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS. Since then, the militant group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics and remains a potent threat in some parts of the country. (NRT Digital Media) |
