| Turkish warbirds pound Kurd Kommies in Akre district |

| SULAIMANI — The Turkish military launched a new phase of operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) early on Wednesday (February 10) by bombing Pers Mountain in Duhok’s Akre district and deploying airborne ground troops in the area using helicopters. A source within the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) speaking on condition of anonymity told NRT that fighting was ongoing as late morning. The HPG is the armed wing of the PKK. “Turkey continued its attacks using Cobra helicopters and disembarked soldiers from Skirosky helicopters,” the source said. The Turkish military later announced on Twitter that it had launched “Operation Claw-Eagle 2” with operations against targets on Gara Mountain, of which Pers is a part, as a follow on to its operations in 2020.
