#5 In the civil war period Ethiopia was Stalinist and supported by the Soviet Union. Eritrean was Islamist/Maoist and supported by the Peoples Republic of China and the USA. (I never understood our support.) |

#4 In the civil war when Eritrea broke off from Ethiopia and several later battles between them most were fought in the Tigray region. They were some of the biggest tank battles in history with lots of needless violence against civilians from all players. It is likely there are still mines all over that area from the civil war period. |
