After acquittal, Trump 2024? Maybe not so fast
2021-02-19
[keprtv.com] Former President Donald Trump's acquittal by the Senate in his impeachment trial may not be the end of the line for efforts to keep him from seeking the presidency again.

If Trump chooses to run for the White House in 2024, opponents are likely to call on a constitutional provision adopted after the Civil War to try to stop him. The Supreme Court could have the final say.

The Constitution's 14th Amendment disqualifies from future office any former elected officials and military officers who "shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion" against the United States. Ratified in 1868, the language in Section 3 of the amendment was aimed at former Confederate civilian and military leaders.

It could be applied to people who incited or took part in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, legal scholars said, noting that a congressional commission to investigate the attack and lawsuits against Trump could help make clearer his role in the deadly violence that day.

I'm thinking this could also apply to all those who took part in the election fraud
Many of those arrested are Antifa/BLM, and related Black Bloc groups, so that could prove amusing. But given that President Trump was acquitted by the Senate on the single charge brought by the House of insurrection, it seems to me that the 14th Amendment cannot possibly apply to him. These people will keep throwing things agains the wall until something sticks.

#15  If you can impeach a federal judge and then be elected as a representative in Congress, they have no grounds to enact a bill of attainder.

#13  And no birthright citizenship
And last but not least...No restriction on arms for American citizens aside from actual WMD's. Wanna own a battleship, cough up the money.

Want to buy a Patriot battery, cough up the money.

#10  They have so overblown the events of Jan 6,

Not so. We've seen the photos. They're horrifying. The man's feet were on. Pelosi's. desk.

#9  A new short constitution may help.
. make no laws restricting religion.
. make no laws restricting speech
. make no laws restricting assembly
. make no regulations without a vote
. all elections must use paper ballots.

#8  It is a leaderless moment, as we watch the relentless pummeling of Trump by the Democrat Congress in every way possible, and fhe career-ending plight of all fhe senior members of his administration. They have so overblown the events of Jan 6, because it shocked them to their core that the right could be mobilized and seize their hallowed halls of power and privilege. The only peaceful remedy for where we are is a Constitutional Convention, with all the structural danger that poses, because we are close to an Imperial Era that will be fatally flawed and doomed to catastrophic failure. . I hope i am wrong but fear i am not.

#7  I think a significant reason the American public tolerates the security theater in DC is the fact the we know on some level they are immaterial. Whether you've given it deep thought or simply intuit it, the conclusion remains the same.

Congress certainly makes enough noise and they compete with one another to make outrageous claims and statements. All while some long suffering straight man solemnly declares 'Who's on first'.

But it doesn't rise to the level of a comedy routine or even theater. It's the magician's distraction. 'Quickly every one, THIS is really important so pay close attention. And while you're all here, why not let the moths out those slender wallets and please help!'.

The Republic is gone alright, the only question now is if we can get it back.

#6  This will not turn out as they expect.
By the time this gets any momentum they'll be unable to hide the facts of who/what happened on Jan 6.

* 1 rioter dead, everyone else died of health reasons
* 1 rioter was a lefty agitator that BLM considered too radical
* FBI knew 3 days ahead of time about trouble
* Trump offered National Guard and Pelosi said no

By all means, go ahead. Discovery will be fun and might get the news out beyond the MSM firewall of ignorance.

#5  By decrees

This is the most shocking of all these surreal dream-steps. We are treated with such contempt by our elites that they don't even bother to try to pass laws. They just dictate. Why is this accepted?

members of the goverment have extended the quartering of troops, building a wall with barbed wire

Razor wire. F---ING RAZOR WIRE surrounding the people's buildings. Like in East Berlin, or the Korean DMZ, or Guantanamo. Why do we tolerate this?

manning the barrier with armed state militia, not federal troops, restricted movement of citizens without "proper papers" from the center of their national government, arrested people attempting enter the borders of Washington, District of Columbia, a federal property formerly "open to all".

Arresting on what grounds? Under what authority? How the hell do they get away with this shit?

Thisis not America any more, but quite less.

This is a slow-motion descent into Putinism: oligarchy combined with pervasive corruption, guarded by an out-of-control security apparatus that is a law unto itself.

How much longer will we sleepwalk in the fog?

When will we rise up and shut down this sick, twisted, totally un-American circus?

#4  Weren't there riots near the Capitol several months ago when they took President Trump to a secure area and where they set fire to a church?

#3  Hence ^^^^^ the reasoning behind this:

To repel American citizens from regaining their government by force.

By decrees, members of the goverment have extended the quartering of troops, building a wall with barbed wire, manning the barrier with armed state militia, not federal troops, restricted movement of citizens without "proper papers" from the center of their national government, arrested people attempting enter the borders of Washington, District of Columbia, a federal property formerly "open to all".

This is not America any more, but quite less.

This is about the tyranny that you may have heard about in school and you laughed.

Laugh no more friend... it here.

#2  Idiots. Keep pushing, and you'll get to see a real insurrection. HINT: about a hundred QANON jug heads LARPing at the behest of Antifa agitators is not what it looks like.

Insurrection is when all 200,000 of the people at the rally pour into the Capitol and take it over, and take Congress as prisoners.
