| Efforts underway to detain Alipoor: MoD |

| [KhaamaPress] Local militia commander Abdul Ghani Alipoor’s ...sometimes identified as simply Alipur or Commander Shamshir (Commander Sword), he was an emir of the fighting wing of Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Afghanistan (the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, Hezb-e Wahdat for short), founded as one of the Shiite anti-Soviet mujahedin groups in the 1980s with some support from Iran, eventually becoming the movement of the Hazera. But it was defeated militarily by the Taliban, then fell apart as a political movement a decade ago. So when the Taliban came rampaging through without any response from Afghan national government forces, Alipur gave up being a simple but well-armed bus driver and assembled an effective Hazara resistance/self defense group, which eventually grew and spread across the nearby provinces. Once again the national government is making its displeasure with this situation known... central base was reportedly captured by the Afghan national defense and security forces.In an operation in Behsud district of Maidan Wardak, ANDSF launched an operation to detain Alipoor who is blamed to have shot down an ANA helicopter (Mi-17) last Wednesday in which 9 security force members including chopper’s pilots were killed. Reports indicate that defense forces have entered the commanding premises of Alipoor’s base in the region. The intensified festivities between the local militias and the government force members have so far left 12 individuals loyal to Alipoor dead. According to MoD, a large number of explosives, weapons, and ammunition belonging to Alipoor were also seized during the ANDSF operation. Ministry of Defense also indicated that security forces in Behsud district are working actively to capture and detain Alipoor. MoD claimed that there is enough evidence to indicate that Alipoor and his men are involved in shooting down the ANA helicopter.
