Government forces bomb residential areas of Syria's Afrin
2021-04-08
[NPASYRIA] On Wednesday evening, Syrian government forces targeted residential neighborhoods of the city of Afrin, northwest Syria, with several artillery shells, in coincidence with Ottoman Turkish shelling of villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

A private source told North Press that the government forces stationed in the town of Nubl, north of Aleppo, shelled the residential neighborhoods of Afrin with 6 artillery shells.

The bombing focused on Afrin-Jinderes Road, in addition to targeting Mazot Road to the west of the city, without any casualties reported, the source added.

In the same context, the same source mentioned that the Ottoman Turkish forces stationed in the Scientific Research Center on Azaz-Yahmol road bombarded the villages of Deir Jamal, Soghana, Ebbin, Umm Hosh and Aqiba in Shahba areas and Sherawa district, north of Aleppo, with several artillery shells.

On February 17, Afrin was subjected to a similar bombardment by the government forces targeting the city center and the Villat Street, causing a number of civilian casualties.

The city of Afrin and its environs have been under the control of the Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition groups since March 2018.
