Afghanistan: 9 Killed in Security Incidents in 24 Hours
2021-04-20
[ToloNews] At least nine people were killed, including eight security force members and one civilian, and 18 more were maimed in security incidents in the last 24 hours, adding another layer to the concerns over increasing violence in the country.

Figures by the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) reveal that 39 non-combatants were killed in violence and 40 more were maimed from April 10 to April 18.

The incidents occurred between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
In Ghazni, two security force members were killed and five more were maimed in a clash on the outskirts of the city of Ghazni on Sunday evening.

"The Arzo village witnesses festivities every night. I hope that further bloodshed stops in Ghazni and in the country to respect the Ramadan month," said Khaliqdad Akbari, a member of the provincial council in Ghazni.

The security incidents happened in Baghlan, Ghazni, Kunduz, Balkh, Parwan, Ghor and Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..

#13  I have a very hard time no patience at all with all the "R2P" crap when the US government not only allows but encourages and abets child trafficking and exploitation at the border with Mexico and the destruction of US citizens' property in all the "peaceful protests."

#7  Bush pretty much declared victory and started to leave and move the war to Iraq, where logistics were better, location more strategic, and chance of actually winning arguably higher. Then his opposition 'convinced' him that Afghanistan was the only acceptable war theatre so we stayed in both places.

#6  To their credit, the command there reduced the US footprint and improved security quite a bit from the peak of the early Obama years. From 2009-2012 we lost an average of about 350 soldiers a year there. During the Trump years, we lost about 20 per year.

The command thought the continued presence would help them improve the Afghan forces.

What remains to be seen is whether the Afghan Govt can survive on its own.

#5   and Trump (despite his call to yank troops out of that place...what took him so long?).

The generals not only dragged their feet but actively lied to President Trump about the situation over there and what it would take to close down operations — and snickered about it, to their media friends, Clem dear.

#2  Countless troops' deaths, maimings, and mental problems could have been prevented by Dubya, Obama, and Trump (despite his call to yank troops out of that place...what took him so long?).

#1  Our troops are supposed to be out by May via a Trump plan. Slow Joe extended that to Sept 11. Any dead US troops between May and September could easily have been prevented and those deaths at the hands of the Taliban will be enabled by Biden who according to NYT ignored the Generals on this.
