Since the 1880s, under the influence of events in the Balkans and in the Ottoman Empire, revolutionary sentiments began to spread among the Armenians of Russia. Of course, the Russian revolutionary movement also played its part in this. The Russian authorities also contributed. Since Russia's exit to the Transcaucasus, the Armenians have been a loyal part of the population, actively cooperating with the imperial administration and the army. But during the reign of Emperor Alexander III significant changes were outlined. The Armenian public supported the Armenians of the Ottoman Empire, including through the church. This raised doubts and even suspicions of the authorities. In 1885, an attack on the Armenian parish education began - about 500 schools were closed, in fact, no adequate replacement was offered. |
