DC Metro train derails near Arlington National Cemetery

[Washington Examiner] A D.C. Metro train partially derailed near Arlington National Cemetery, causing delays on the Blue Line on Tuesday.

There were no reported injuries as of 7:30 p.m. local time, and service between Pentagon and Foggy Bottom is suspended as rescuers evacuate the passengers.

A single car derailed 2,000 feet from the Arlington Cemetery stop in Virginia. Metrorail said to expect delays on the Orange and Silver Lines due to congestion.

Blue Line Delay: Train service suspended between Pentagon and Foggy Bottom due a train derailment outside Arlington Cemetery. Shuttle buses available.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. with hundreds of people on board. Rescuers will escort the passengers through the tunnel to the station, where shuttle buses can bring them to their desired location.

#4  Blue line delay is actually between Roslyn and the Pentagon.

The Metrorail system was, by 2010, plagued by overcrowding. They solved this by having well publicized accidents and bad service so that by 2019 ridership was about 20% less than in 2010.

In 2020l ridership plummeted to about 25% of the 2019 level. This year ridership is about double 2020 but still way, way, way below capacity.

Of course, passengers must wear face masks which makes the experience more awful.
