Partly it was institutional racism, but partly it’s because there are tricks to lighting darker skin so that it will photograph and film well, and most people to this day don’t know how to do that. (Neither do I, but Mr. Wife does. Apparently it’s to do with contrast and highlighting features — how the images are edited.) |
