"Is it acceptable for Salameh to be prosecuted and interrogated in many European countries but not in Lebanon?" Bassil questioned in a tweet.

"He is the person most involved in serious money laundering crimes," he said.

"Is this how we restore confidence in the Lebanese pound?" Bassil decried.
